Summer Book Discussion

For our summer gatherings we will be reading and discussing The Faith Club: A Muslim, A Christian, A Jew -- Three Women Search for Understanding by Ranya Idliby, Suzanne Oliver, and Priscilla Warner. (The book can be ordered through the Amazon link on our main website).
This inter-faith dialogue will help us reflect on our own faith understandings as well as expand our understanding of others.

We will begin Sunday, May 31st, 6-6:30 pm gathering time, starting discussion at 6:30 pm. For the summer we will meet in Deb & Gail's carport so dress casually and comfotably.

Please read the following website pages before the first meeting.

Reclaiming Jesus

I want to start a conversation about Jesus. The term "Christian" can at times be an embarrassment, so how do we reclaim what it means? How do we understand who Jesus was and what he did and what that means for those of us who identify with him in some way?
Think about what you have been taught about Jesus, what you're questioning, what doesn't work for you and bring those thoughts to our gathering Sunday evening and we'll see where this takes us!
We'll begin tonight, March 1st, 6:30 pm.

Study on Discernment

It is my aim, as your pastor, to NOT tell you what to think and believe, but to give you the tools to determine that for yourselves. We have taken on some challenging subjects this past fall -- concepts of heaven & hell, the virgin birth theologies, etc. -- so it seems appropriate to turn next to the issue of Discernment.

If you have ever wondered what to believe when inundated with the myriad of theologies and opinions that are out there, if you have ever wondered if/how/where God was directing your life, if you are tired of the traditional political structure of many churches, this might help!

We will be using the book Discerning God's Will Together by Danny E. Morris & Charles M. Olsen. We will start with the Intro & Chapter 1 this Sunday (1-11) and roughly, do a chapter per week after that.

I will be posting other resources on http://mindattheoasis.blogspot.com/ so check there as we go along.

Upcoming events

Sunday, November 23rd, 6:30 - 8:00 pm
Pre-Thanksgiving Soup potluck
At Luann & Scott's (call or email for directions)

Starting November 30th:
A New Look at Christmas: We will look at some of traditions surrounding the holidays and challenge some of the sugar-coating placed on this time of year!
At Deb & Gail's.

Also November 30th: Our Spirit time will be in recognition of World AIDS Day.

December 24th: Christmas Eve potluck and service

Coming in January & February: Discernment
We often wrestle with the questions,
"Where is God in all this?"
"Is this what God would have me/us do?"
"Is this a good decision?"
Discernment is the term used to explore these and similar questions. We will look at its biblical basis, history, and methods as we learn way to discern the direction of our own lives.
